What can be left after awakening, but serenity?
If the person is gone, with all it’s concerns, what can remain but peace?
Thoughts appear. Sensations appear.
Perhaps the thoughts are of an anxious or distressed quality. But without a person to identify with them, they are just like the weather. Sometimes rain, sometimes wind, sometimes sun.
When the ego is present it energizes thoughts. Just as a warm ocean energizes a hurricane. But when the hurricane passes over land it’s energy is lost.
Similarly, when the ego has dissolved, thoughts have no energy. They are no longer personal. They arise and then fade, like a hurricane over land.
One no longer thinks “these are my thoughts” or “I am having these thoughts”. So serenity appears. It was always there, hidden behind the clouds of ego-driven thinking.
